limpo / clean

·

yes, from time to time i put things in the garbage, so yes, there is some hope!
but my collector's problem (an euphemism for bringing home things, an euphemism for garbage) has its problems
one of them is the "disinfected" strip of paper from the hotel's bathrooms
i cannot enter an hotel bathroom and put the stupid paper in the garbage, i always keep them (freud must have an explanation for it), this one was over my work desk since august

but rest your souls, this one is already in the garbage (of course first i scanned it for a computer that is full to the brim)

memories... (the sequel)

·

last weekend in oporto, trying to park the car so we could go to trama festival in passos manuel, we've found a space in front of belas artes café (and yes it was close due to the late hour)
i didn't pass through there for ages
truth be said, all the neighbourhood of the oporto fine arts school has been a contaminated area, a chernobyl, for me since 1991
i didn't had any problem there, and i still don't really understand why, but the idea of all those spaces where i "lived" five years of my life empty of my personal references, my friends, etc, gives me the creeps

acusação / accusation

·
como fui acusado este fim de semana de colocar músicas com pendor deprimente (embora lily von schtupp ao cantar que "everything below the waste is kapput" não me pareça assim tão triste)
cá vai:
as i've been accused this weekend of posting depressive music (i think that lily von schtupp singing that "everything below the waste is kapput" in not that sad)

lilly von schtupp, the bavaria bombshell herself

·

going around here on the blog, found dear marlene dietrich singing "falling in love again" posted on a day where nothing else could be heard
as now, while not well because that is just impossible, i'm a little bit better, i post here the other cabaret stage great lady with a knockwurst acce

i'm tired
blazing saddles, mel brooks (1974)

Here I stand, the goddess of Desire,
set men on fire,
I have this power,
morning noon and night it's drink and dancing,
some quick romancing,
and then a shower,
stage door johnnies constantly surround me,
they always hound me,
with one request,
who can satisfy their lustful habits,
I'm not a rabbit!
I need some rest!

I'm tired,
sick and tired of love,
I've had my fill of love,
from below and above,
tired,
tired of being admired,
tired of love uninspired,
let's face it,
I'm tired!

I've been with thousands of men,
again and again,
they promise the moon,
they always coming and going,
and going and coming,
and always too soon!
Right girls?

I'm tired,
tired of playing the game,
ain't it a crying shame?
I'm so tired,
God dammit I'm exhausted!

Hello cowboy, what's your name?
Tex 'mam
Tex 'mam ? Tell me Tex'mam, are you in show business?
No
We'll then why don't you get your freaking feet off here
La ha
Ah ha he hu...
Hello handsome, is that a ten gallon hat? Or are you just enjoying the show?
Ah ha ah...
Oh miss lilly, oh my lovely lady, oh my pussy cat, put it there baby, put it... ohhhhh

I'm tired,
tired of playing the game,
ain't it a crying shame,
I'm so tired

[soldiers:]
she's tired
-she's tired
sick and tired of love
-give her a break
she's had her fill of love
-she's not a snake
from bellow and above
-can't you see she's sick?
tired
-she's bushed
tired of being admired
-let her alone
tired of love uninspired
-get off the phone
she's tired
-don't you know she's pooped?

I've been with thousands of men,
again and again,
they sing the same toon,
they start with Byron and Shelly,
and jump on your belly,
and bust your ballon!
aye!
tired,
tired of playing the game,
ain't it a freakin shame,
I'm so...
let's face it,
everything below the waste is kapput!

reitoria /rectory

·

yesterday i've gone to the lisbon university rectory to assist to a design phd defense
nevertheless and once more i stared the original design pieces that are still over there
almost all of them products of a young daciano da costa at the beginning of his carrier, they remain lovely
if it wasn't the detail of being on two wheels i would, in a discreet manner, have tried to bring one of the long velvet benches

two pictures of the seats at the lower lobby of the main gulbenkian building

weltliteratur

·

also at gulbenkian tried to see the weltliteratur exhibition, but it was impossible due to the coincidence of a guided tour was happening at the same time, so it was impossible to read when the screechy voice of the guide was reading other texts,
will come back later
but it was possible to understand (against my will) that the exhibition design by the mateus bros was just wonderful

volta dos museus / museum tour

·
yesterday i've been to chiado museum and camjap/gulbenkian (modern art center) to understand what the kids were talking about

the exhibition at chiado is a little bit confusing, but it was present one of my favourite portuguese works of art: the shadow embroidered sheet from lourdes de castro

at gulbenkian, among others, loved the "dancer and chairs" photo by victor palla, the female figure drawing of jorge barradas and the beautiful portrait of maria de mello breyner by antónio soares and finally found that the cat drawing posted long time ago was after all by ofélia marques

last weekend, strolling around lisbon with my friends from the north, i ended at OPORTO, the slightly underground space housed in the beautiful and old former merchant sailors union headquarters building, that i and z'lu always admire, from outside, when climbing the hill from boavista to santa catarina
inside it's even more beautiful and peculiar and that night was presented the almost epileptic "kodachrome revisited" by jon behrens, from 1987

yesterday, in a oporto stroll with my girl friend "the famous portuguese 17 c. painteur" and after the traditional gin tonic at gato vadio, a bookshop/cafe at rosário street, for the high quality of the gin and the "rest"
i've walked through the calm galeria de paris street, now transformed in what an oporto friend of mine referred as the "oporto ramblas" or the "poor men's bairro alto"
while not really one thing or the other, and after moving to the "kingdom" capital so many years ago, to find my old and shy oporto nighlife like that left me stupefied, they really looked like lisbon sluts (me included), all happily squeezed outside in the street holding the drinks

magnifico

·

lately i've been, more than once, on the airport waiting for people on the arrivals lobby
so, what is it that makes the travellers so beautiful at that moment?
is it something on the rarefied oxygen of the airplanes? the joy of having both feet again on the ground? the jet-set lifestyle? the curious and at the same time frightened look trying to recognize someone in the crowd? the fact of having been somewhere else?
or is it just us looking so much that suddenly have this unpremeditated distraction?

cabeças de cartas / letterheads

·

one of the amusements between reading so much mail was, from time to time, to "keep" some of the letters for the curiosity of the letterheads:
from the already modern and almost proto-helvetica swiss representation, to the old-fashioned "chapelaria" (hat-makers) from são joão da madeira; from the interesting logo of the artist-designer "TOM" (thomaz de mello) to "alexandre d'almeida", the same enterprise manging nowadays the beautiful bussaco hotel; from the tourism office of covilhã trying to be modern, to the letter from the spahi regiment of morocco that remind me of teleny (the anonimous oscar wilde erotic novel), where a french spahi lieutenant presented his skills, learned in the middle east, of "managing" dried dates and liquor bottles, with a bad ending

in the meantime forbidden amusements (the reading not the dates)

a corporate image schizophrenia

·

sailing through the SPN/SNI boxes of the 1937 paris international exhibition, guarded in torre do tombo national archive, i discovered a constant flux of mail between the direction of the portuguese pavillion and "litografia nacional", the oporto printing press that produced almost all publications for that event
interesting for me was to notice that from letter to letter the letterhead of the company jumped from the most contemporary (of the period) to the "faraway-19.C-lost-company" look
was it an error of the dumb secretary? a marketing strategy presenting the versatility of the enterprise? or the managers schizophrenia coming up?

SH#28- le dernier "summer highlight"

·

sim

a fábrica / the factory

·

the buiding where zumthor exhibition is housed (now named lxfactory) have always been a favourite of mine since i've come to live in lisbon near it and now even more since i know it from inside
from what i think is a industrial building erected in the end of the 18th C. (more than the 19th c. referred) to the many later adictions, i've always thought that it should be preserved
it has been a survivor to the recent demolition of the industrial past of this part of lisbon (alcantara) but now reborn as a cultural "factory" it gives me some hope about its future... but we never now, unfortunately!
