bagageira do jaguar E type (Malcolm Sayer, 1961).

the jaguar type-E trunk door (Malcolm Sayer, 1961).
call it a stupid fetish, but it’s the most sensual car trunk door ever made

o umbigo.

the bellybutton.
something that now it’s just a deposit for fluff or a playground for curious fingers in more or less solitary nights.
other equally amusing holes of the human body could be discussed, but… there is no doubt that this one is really cute for its obvious [in]utility, and besides, without it, what would be of the bellies?

the larger arch in the águas livres aqueduct (lisbon, portugal, by custódio vieira, manuel da maia, carlos mardel and joão frederico ludovice, built between 1729-1744)
but why?!
since child, every time there was a visit to the grandparents in lisbon the question popped up, why one of the aqueduct’s arches was larger than the others? should it be for the six lanes avenue nowadays passing through? don’t think that that issue was one of the thoughts worrying the architects in 1744, and even worst, why asymmetrical in relation to the
alcântara valley?
[the answer was already found some years ago]

chaminé do algar do carvão (terceira, açores).

volcanic chimney of algar do carvão (terceira island, azores).
a volcanic chimney as many others around, but really beautiful as it is only seen after going through a long, dark and icy subterranean corridor until you are surprised by the view of the sky blue and the vivid greens of the vegetation and moss hanging from the aperture.
at the same time a little bit scary when realizing that the beautiful view is seen from inside a volcanic hole in a island from an archipelago not really calm.

the furo [hole] was the project for a design magazine that was intended to be publish in the university, but that never go through.
for the first number there was the idea of making a small essay about the name itself (in reality it was the idea for the theme of all the inaugural number).

so what is a
furo?
[it’s a noun that means, like in english, an orifice, an aperture, a gap or a crevice; but in portugese it could also means, in a figurative way, a form of solving some business; or a way out; or a first-hand news; or the possibility of break from a difficult situation; etc].
so, as it’s possible to understand, it could be a lot of things, but it was decided to focus on the more simple meanings: holes as orifices, apertures; and to present a collection of images of the favourite holes (once more, the julie andrews quotation)
so here they go, the first was an old picture already at home, the others were in my head, and were made in a frantic polaroid period as an answer for that problem.
